This file, that you send me to e-mail is a part of whole firmware: boot, PTZ setting, web player

well i was hoping to analyze its contents to see if theres anything inside that will help me figure out how to get output from serial port (rs232)

Possible all is easy.
If external RS232 present so tru null modem of other cable and try connect to PC.
Possible that in this model serial console statistic is close orr you do somthimg wrong doing.

i wonder if com port settings are correct i have it set at 115200,8,n,1

in general in new 2011-... it work.
Maybe you need less speed?
